Have just had a meal at Restaurantes Da Fortaleza at Praia da Luz. This is one I would recommend as the food and service was of a high standard.

If you want to taste a bit of Portugal then go to the pub Bar 6 in Almadena that sells amazingly cheep drinks in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

had a typical portugese breakfast at Cafetaria Lacobriga in Lagos - very friendly owner - good for coffee and cakes in the afternoon too.

''Go to see my friend Antonio at Praia Mos'' says he. So next day, lunch. And what food! Especially the 'shrimps' in garlic. Wonderful selection of seafood, entertaining sea view - sweet young things parasailing!

Very reasonable prices for a slightly more special lunch. Needed a siesta afterwards.

....ooh! Forgot to mention, went to Bar Six in Almadena the night before - having seen it on the blog here.

So cheap, so friendly and a huge welcome from the many local people in there that night to support Benfica against Barcelona. Okay, so the wrong result - but still they cheered and the night continued in good spirits.

If you go to eat at the restaurant O'Celeiro in Almadena, enjoy the food and excellent service, however, DO NOT leave a tip for the staff as they do not recieve one cent of the tips that are left for them The owner of O'Celeiro keeps every cent!He does not even give his staff a beer which has been paid for by his customers,He exploits every member of his staff, I have eaten there many, many times over the past eight years, but I will NEVER go there or take my clients there ever again.

I have just moved into the village of Almadena, part time ofcourse, still to young to retire, there is a mixture of bars and places to eat, just touching on the comments about O Poco, English bar, the food is good, infact its very good, and most people enjoy a little entertaiment once in a blue moon, nothing wrong with that, and we are all welcome!to the guy that didn't like the liver"try the steak then, its very good, my advice, why not try all the places to eat and drink, i have, and overall, Almadena gets the thumbs up. PS, if you like cycling then your in the right place, PPS, thanks to les O Poco, for welcoming me to the village, Luiz john, johns friends, big Phil from Ryhll, trev, my friend and guide whilst in portugal, and everone else, in the village, see you all soon.

Have just come to an end of a 10 day stay in Almadena. We found the place to be very friendly and welcoming. The O'Porco produced great food, and the welcome and the help we received from Luis the proprietor of BAR 6 was so helpful that I would recommend a visit to anybody who is in the area. He is a very friendly and helpful man and I wish we had more back in the UK like him.

I must be in a different Portugal, the owner of the O, Poco the 'so called' restaurant in Almadena is rude, arrogant and with his wife know everything about everywhere and everyone, they gossip voilantly.
The food is OK but there is much better close by.
These two should never be among the public.

Unfortunately we can't please everyone all of the time! I hope Mr
anonymous WAS in the same country,as its great, but I cant help feeling he is possibly suffering from a sense of humour failure, or has he forgotten just his name perhaps?

I must say I have never had a bad meal in O Poco - in fact the food is excellent particularly the fillet steak. Les and Jackie are always very accommodating and, in fact, from a holiday maker point of view, can't do enough for you.

just returned back to the north east in the UK, wet wet wet, missing the village feeling, however, the couple from the opoko bar, really need to stop talking about other people and other bars in front of and to customers, and here is a tip, when a customer pays to eat at your bar, don't go and sit down next to them and smoke a cigarette , rude rude rude
, and the woman that works there, keep here in the bar away from customers, i think these guys should be in Benidorm, not Almadena.

We found the O Poco bar to be a freindy place with great food, the steak was perfectly cooked and the drinks are reasonably priced. This is the first place we stopped to eat in portugal and have been back several times! The owner is freindly and there is free internet access!

well i'm just about getting fed up with the two unfriendly ,rude, nasty, bitch biting ,back stabbing couple who run O poco. you can not go to any other bars in the village with out them spotting you and giving you the looks of disgust!. recently i was sat in jardine having lunch and jackie stood there shaking her head and counting the customers ? WTF ? who are these people ? if they should ever read this blog then i would like them to know that the village is small and if you wish to discuss others then that will in turn get around -which results in a loss of buisness to themselves.how dare these two dictate where others should be spending their cash? why not sell up and move on - you are not wanted or liked and it is all your own doing :( Sad that this couple can ruin a village !

yet again we tried our luck at the Poco bar, just a one weeks stay for us, thought it may have improved,, Nope, the couple who own it can't seem to keep their mouth shut about other expats who live in the village, when you start calling your customers ("stuck up shits")just because they love and ride horses, behind there back, im sure many people ride horses, nothing wrong in that, but what gives these people the right to talk about others like that, and this couple are paying customers, im totally gob smacked !! are these people normally like this, i'd bet that they are,, we tried the bar next door the following day, cant remember the name now, but there was some sort of a cycling convention / event going on, but we were soon made to be very welcome and found ourself chatting to lots of people, nice place, will go again, sadly not to the English bar :(

Almadena is a lovely village though a small number of Brits do spoil the place . If the O Poce was not run by delinquents and fed by bored expats the village would be perfect ! its such a shame that people have bad habbits and nothing better to do than sit daily and discuss the lives of others ! Go get a life , enjoy the Algarve , mix with the portugese people and change your ways !!! End of !!!!!

The restaurant O Celeiro on Almádena is open for more than 20 years is a family restaurant where work´s husband wife and two sons. We do not take anything for ourselves. Nor need we authorize ourselves for drinking or eating whatever.
Mr. ANONYMUS should wash the eyes, ears and especially the mouth to get a better sense of realidade.Ou then seek psychiatric help.
It is unfortunate that there are people who have nothing better to do than create lies and try to harm others.
    Best regards.
João (son of the owner of O CELEIRO)

having been to almadena every year for 5 yrs I am very surprised at some of these comments. I have visited every bar restaurant there & they are all good but the opoco is great, the owners are incredibly welcoming the food is excellent.Les is witty, humourous & very helpful.I think these people who don't like them have a sense of humour failure.

Over many years we have always had a warm welcome from O poco and have been helped with good information and advice. Have not heard gossip, perhaps the real gossip mongers haven't been there when we have?
The food that we have had at O poco is great, people come far and wide for the lovely Sunday roastie.
I dislike sites that can rubbish people and their businesses with no recourse. If you are unhappy then vote with your feet or 'grow a pair' and have the conversation.
Almadena is a great village and those that live there along with the lovely Portuguese people are very lucky. Those that come from outside of the village to gossip should find somewhere else to 'have their sport'

Ò poco serves up a brilliant roast each and every sunday, while you're in the area it's an absolute must!!!!
Les and Jackie are wonderful people with a brilliant sense of humor and those who have said different obviously have no sense of humor at all.
We co.e and drink and eat here on a fairly regular basis and enjoy both the food and the company of the landlords and the locals.
Visit here it's a true little gem as long as you can open your mind and have a laugh!!!!

The "people" who are still running "O Poço" will for sure burn-in-hell. And not because I wish them that, but because they mistreat so many clients with no reason, they are the rudest and the most unprofessional I've ever seen. Go to ANY portuguese tasca and you will have better service than there. Having a café/ restaurant is not only about making food, is mostly about dealing with people, being nice and friendly. Don't misunderstand madness or bad manners with humour. I could sign this comment for at least 100 people, but my name is Margarida.

Me thinks that the anonymous person leaving bad comments about O Poco just bears a grudge, maybe he should get over it, they are lovely people and yes they do have a sense of humour, and food is good and reasonably priced

My Wife (Maggie) and I have just enjoyed a wonderful lunch and some brilliant banter with the owners of O Poço (Les & Jackie)... I can't believe some of the vitriolic nonsense that has been credited on this blog. Many thanks for a most enjoyable lunch and a great laugh... Paul & Maggs

I have been visiting almadena for nearly 15 years, Jackie and Les are fantastic, they are welcoming, they like a bit of banter but in a professional way, they work from dawn to dusk.

The place is brilliant, it is quiet friendly, welcoming, good food, good drinks, I cannot think of a nicer place to go whilst on holiday,

They do not intrude, they are not nosey, they do like a bit of banter but only if you like the same.

I have seen over the years many customers turn up and be extremely rude, it does not matter which country you are visiting or live in it is only polite to be nice to other people. If you want a five star resataurnt then go there do not ruin the atmosphere of a place a call my second home
